Many people came to learn or just to have a look at the very paintings created on water. Turns out that Ebru art knows no age. With great pleasure and enthusiasm, the master showed numerous interesting techniques of painting on water. The process of preparation as such seemed to be alchemistry – prior to the start the master had been preparing water and paints with the same inspiration and accuracy as a musician tunes his instrument before he plays every piece of music. Master workshop attendees had an opportunity to work individually and under the care and guidance of the master himself. All ebru paints, brushes, water painting tools, ebru water, ebru tubs, and paper were brought from Turkey and are authentic.

According to the feedback from different participants three hours get away from them, that much fascinating it was to practice at the master workshop. Moreover, all the process was accompanied by tender oriental melodies, and even by a touching ney tune, played by another guest from Turkey, the master of calligraphy Nurullah Ozdema, which still greater were deepening everyone into the atmosphere of beauty, creativity and East. The Concert of Mystic Qawwali music

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

…«music kindles the heart fire and the flame, rising from it, enlightens the soul» Inayat Khan

On 20 July, for the first time in Latvia, we welcomed the concert of Qawwali. The qawwals „Ustad Ali Hafeez Khan and party” gave the concert in front of the wide audience.

Profound, emotional voices of the singers, tunes of the Harmoniuim, hand clapping, extasy of the singers, uniqueness of the sounding wishing or not carried the audience over to steaming-hot India, to the boundary between desert and its oasis. Dependent on music, the time was flying or stopped still. The qawwali singers and musicians astonished us with their devotion, full absorption, passion. They sang devotional songs and hymns just for us and it was absolutely unimportant which language did they sing: Urdu, Hindi or Farsi.

Qawwali music is a touch of antiquity, of India, of the initial sound uniting us all together…That’s why it is so important that qawwali musicians convey their traditions from generation to generation for many centuries.

Our guests are the followers of Amir Khusrau Dehlavi, who lived in the XIII century, will give their concert in front of a wide audience. People credit exactly him as the inventor of the sitar. Amir Khusrau Dehlavi composed poetry in Farsi and Hindavi. Supposedly he is the author of the synonyms thesaurus “Khalikbari”, containing words in Arab, Persian and Hindi. Throughout his life Khusrau was praising humanism, tolerance and mercy.

Some words about the artists: The group “Ustad Ali Hafeez Khan and party” consists of seven people. The group features two singers – Ustan Ali Hafeez Khan and Ustad Haji Amir Khan, who play the harmonica, percussionists (the tabla, the dholak), and back-vocalists, who also accompany the performance with hand claps.

Ustad Ali Hafeez Khan and Ustad Haji Amir Khan continue cultural traditions of Rampur Gharana (India). They are students of their world-wide known father Ustad Latafat Hussenin Khan and have been performing since the age of 7. Ustad Ali Hafeez Khan is the main participant of many musical festivals and is very popular all over the world.[/vc_column_text][us_gallery ids=»594,597,600,603,606,609,612,615,618,621,624,627″ layout=»masonry» columns=»3″ indents=»1″][vc_column_text]Photo © Ivan Varshavsky[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Afterword: Arrival of the distinguished guest from Konya in Riga

[vc_row][vc_column width=»1/1″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]time could we take a breath, the day of 12 May came – the day of parting.

Those four and a half days were maximally saturated with communication, sharing of knowledge, spiritual talks, common practices, songs, music, heart warmth and happiness.

That was the time when owing to affinity of souls and consonance of hearts there appeared the feeling of home, the feeling that distances, cultural peculiarities and language differences lose their meaning if people are united by love – the love to the light, to the truth, to the humanity – to God.

We are parting with hope for soon meeting with our dear friend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][us_image_slider ids=»370,373,376,379″ nav=»dots» transition=»crossfade» autoplay=»1″ autoplay_period=»3000″ img_size=»full»][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Sufi Evening “The Awakening of Love”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=»https://youtu.be/oZKB0qjp340″ video_title=»1″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]On Sunday, on March 12, we had the Sufi Evening “The Awakening of Love”, timed to the first days of the spring and blooming of nature.

The program of the evening was intense and rich: the first part featured the performance by the musicians of the School of Dervishes, who never cease to surprise and please us with new sides of their talents. They played for us lyrical oriental melodies, touching devotional songs and romances. The second part offered the audience to take part in the art-experiment:  they had a unique opportunity to see Ebru paintings showing up to the music of an equally unique musician from Lithuania  Saulius Petreikis. Amazing, charming, exotic sounds of various woodwind and percussion instruments and our imagination turned this show into a real mystery, having awakened the whole array of images and associations. The Ebru-show culminated in the Duduk sounds and magical appearance of a rose from vague blurry figures on the water surface.

Poetry is an integral part of Sufi tradition, and, certainly, also this time wonderful and inspired reciters  presented verses by great Sufi poets, dashing thoughts about eternal, innermost, love and beloved, which started appearing like snowdrops from under winter snow banks of frozen in the daily hustle feelings.

Fullness and tranquility demand communication and sharing. Finalizing the event there took place the lively, casual and deep conversation on love, Sufi traditions, and relationship in a family, peculiarities of our world and being, which probably caused new questions to our beloved Teacher.

We are expressing our sincere gratitude to everyone, who took part in this evening, be it a guest, an organizer, a musician, an artist or a recite, and contributed into creation of magical, warm, homely atmosphere of the evening. Our most sincere and deepest gratitude to the one, who keeps helping and inspiring us on the path of beauty, love and self-knowledge – to our dearest Teacher.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][us_single_image image=»282″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»285″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»288″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»291″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»294″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»297″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»300″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»303″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»306″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»309″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»312″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»315″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»318″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»321″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»324″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»327″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»330″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»333″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»336″ size=»full»][us_single_image image=»339″ size=»full»][/vc_column][/vc_row]
